Brazil’s capital city is Brasilia. It’s less than 50 years old, and has a population of almost three million people. Until 1960, Brazil’s capital was Rio de Janeiro. Brasilia was the idea of our president at the time, Juscelino Kubitschek. It was built between 1956 and 1960. The city was planned by Lucio Costa, but the most important buildings were designed by Oscar Niemeyer.
Living in Brasilia is great because there’s always somewhere to go, but it’s not always easy to get there without a car. A subway was built in 2001, so now it’s much easier to get around.
Read this essay about Brasilia, the capital of Brazil. Then write a description of your capital city. Try to include the following information:
- the pros and cons of living there
- the population of the city
- the name of the former capital city
- when the city was built
